Sim Swapping is a type of cyberattack where a fraudster tricks your mobile carrier into transferring your phone number to a SIM card they control. This is often achieved through social engineering tactics, where the attacker impersonates you and convinces the carrier to make the switch. Once they have control of your phone number, they can intercept calls and texts, including two-factor authentication codes, allowing them to access your online accounts. This can lead to unauthorized transactions and identity theft. To protect yourself, use app-based authentication and contact your carrier for enhanced security options.
